Nicole Scherzinger has officially been announced as British singer Cheryl Coles replacement on the judging panel of the U.S. version of The X Factor.

Simon Cowell, the brains behind the talent search, fought hard to land his protegee a place on the judging panel after she became a hit on the original U.K. version.

However, Cole was axed after contestants reportedly struggled to understand her heavy northern English accent during the audition process.

Cowells representative confirmed the music mogul was doing everything he could to find Cole a place on the forthcoming reality show, but negotiations with Fox network executives appear to have fallen through and now Scherzinger has been unveiled as the latest addition to the judges panel.

A statement released by Fox bosses reads: "Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing $5 million recording deal.

"Nicole has previously joined Simon Cowell as a guest judge on The X Factor for the U.K. version of the show in 2010."

Scherzinger had originally been set to co-host the show with Welsh presenter Steve Jones, but he will now front The X Factor by himself when it launches later this year.

After being sued by Joe Satriani over "Viva La Vida," Coldplay are taking no chances with their new single "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall."

The quartet have credited late songwriter Peter Allen - dubbed by some as "Australias answer to Barry Manilow" - on the track, saying it "contains elements of I Go to Rio written by Peter Allen and Adrienne Anderson." The song was a single for Allen in 1976.

Bosses at German car giant Audi have hit back at Eminems lawsuit which alleges they used one of his songs in an advertisement without permission.

The hip-hop star and his production company filed papers in Hamburg Regional Court in Germany last week claiming Eminems hit track "Lose Yourself" was used in a promo for the new Audi A6 Avant.

The lawsuit alleges the song, which was previously authorized for use in an ad for rival car maker Chrysler, was used by Audi without permission. The film was reportedly unveiled at a recent press event in Berlin.

A U.S. spokesperson for Audi has now responded to the lawsuit, writing in an email to Yahoo! Music, "The video referred to is not an advertisement. Also, this does not involve Audi of America. The video was not shown here in the U.S."

A representative for Eminem has previously said, "We believe Audi not only used Lose Yourself to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chryslers commercial campaign."

The most memorable moment from last nights MTV Movie Awards was undoubtedly Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewarts acceptance speech for the "Best Kiss" award. The duo have won that category for three years straight, but this year they were up against some stiff competition -- Stewarts kiss with another Twilight co-star, Taylor Lautner.

  • Feeling guilty for scoring the award again, Pattinson decided to share the wealth with Lautner, so he ran into the audience, found Taylor, and planted one on him.

    Check it out:

Another highlight from the show was the premiere of the first official Breaking Dawn trailer. Included in the clip are the wedding scene, Edward and Bellas honeymoon, and (spoiler alert!) Bellas growing belly.

Lady Gaga praised on Amazon.com for allowing fans to purchase a digital copy of her new release Born This Way for $0.99 - because it gives everyone the chance to hear her music.

Gagas highly-anticipated album hit stores on May 23 and the online retailer offered the digital version to fans for a fraction of its normal price on the day of release. The deal proved so popular, the huge numbers of customers flocking to the website caused it to crash. Amazon.com executives extended the sale for a second day to promote its Cloud Drive download service.

The promotion helped Gaga smash U.S. digital album sales records by scoring first-week figures of 662,000, boosting her total sales to 1.1 million. And Gaga insists she had no problem with Amazon selling Born This Way at the bargain price. Asked whether she thought her album was worth more than $0.99, she tells the Wall Street Journal, "No. I absolutely do not, especially for MP3s and digital music. Its invisible. Its in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music."

But Gaga admits she wasnt the one losing out on money: "It also wasnt really 99 cents, because Amazon paid the difference on all of those purchases as part of their promotional campaign for one of their new services. I think its amazing and it was a really nice surprise and I felt honoured that they chose my record to be part of it."
